![]() ![]() Ember fell down onto the kitchen floor and died. She gagged and tried to scream, but only coughed up a massive amount of blood. Ember grasped the knife handle, withdrew it from her belly, and without any hesitation drove the knife through her own heart. With one last twitch the baby inside of her stopped moving. The baby was still very small inside her but she could still feel it wriggling and squirming in agonizing pain. She screamed in pain clutching the knife as her blood mixed with the blood of her unborn child spilled onto the floor. She took a deep breath and plunged the knife into her womb. She would help her child to escape first, and then it would be her turn. She pictured herself doing the deed in her head.Įmber held the tip of the knife against her pregnant belly. “Maybe I’ll just stab myself…I could make it quick…” Ember said. She paused in the kitchen and took a large knife from the steak knife holder. I’ll curse you too!”Īs Ember thought about what way she would end herself, she took one last walk around the house. Oh, Mother, I wish that I was able to see the tormented look in your eyes when you come home to find your pregnant daughters corpse. “You know I’m glad I came here.” Ember said to herself as a dark thought came upon her. The faint tick from the clock in the living room was the only answer. She didn’t think anyone was home, but she had to be sure. The last thing she wanted was for her mother to find her here. ![]() She nervously stepped inside her house for the first time in a month. She pulled the handle on the sliding glass door and was extremely surprised to find that the door slid open. Her sister was home, that much she confirmed. The panty door that had been closed when she discovered her family was gone was now open. She walked around to the backyard sliding glass door and peered into the kitchen. The backdoor of the Garage was still locked, which didn’t surprise her either. She walked around the house to the backdoor of the Garage and looked inside to find it unsurprisingly empty. Mclain always drove his wife to work and then to his own, and at the end of the day would pick her up and drive home. Ember didn’t really know why she called the car her mother’s car, because it was actually her father who drove it the most. The Mclain family didn’t have very much money, so her parents could only afford one car. This most likely meant that she and her father were at work. They should be.” Her mother’s car wasn’t in the driveway. “Why on earth did I come back here?” Ember asked herself in thought. Thirty minutes later, she found herself standing in front of her old home. If that was so she must have been too young to fully remember. Had she been here before? Perhaps her mother-God curse her soul-had brought her here when she was little. She looked around at the small playground and had the strangest feeling that she somehow knew the place. Ember saw the park sprinklers were on, and drank a few handfuls of water. Somehow she managed to get back onto her feet. Today was the day she would die, and Death was going to see to it that nothing got in the way of claiming what was his. This day would haunt Ember and all who knew her for the rest of eternity. It was the morning of the 18th of September in the year 1980. The next morning Ember woke up so sore she could barely move. Her dreams were filled with nothing but Zack’s last words and a shrill undeveloped scream of pure agony. Ember closed her eyes, and somehow managed to find sleep. Ember awoke the next morning so sore she could barely move. The night was cold, and she had no blanket to keep herself warm. The bench was stone, and was anything but comforting to her back. Her stomach growled, her muscles ached, and her throat was dry. As she passed a small, empty park playground she spotted a bench and collapsed on it. She needed someplace to sleep, somewhere…anywhere. But as the day passed on she grew too tired to be angry. “I can’t do it Ember, I’m sorry! Please forgive me!”Įmber’s anger grew and grew inside her like a fire burning larger and hotter with each passing second. Ember heard Zack’s last words to her over and over in her head. Her fear and sadness had turned into anger hate. She was no longer afraid, no longer worried, and no longer cared for Zack. How far had she walked? Several blocks? Several miles? Ember didn’t know. All that she knew what that she simply was going. Her pace was slow and sluggish, and she had no idea where she was going. Every step she took made her aches and cramps even worse, but she didn’t stop walking. ![]()
